Derek Bashford MBE concluded his year as Captain of Belton Park Golf Club last week at the club’s Annual meeting. He is pictured (left below) handing over the Captaincy to incoming Captain Colin Mason.
Derek commented that now his year as Captain is over, he has 52 weeks of wonderful memories, and can sign off in the belief that Belton Park Golf Club is a well run, well managed community, proud to be members of one of the best clubs in Lincolnshire and the Midlands and he thanked the members for giving him the honour and privilege of being their Captain. He also thanked the members for having been so kind and generous throughout the year as the Captains Charities for the year, Prostate Cancer UK and St Barnabas Lincolnshire Hospice will benefit to the tune of over £9,000 thanks to their generosity. New Captain Colin remarked Derek has had a tremendous year with many highlights and he congratulated him on the dedication and enthusiasm he brought to the role.
A new golfing year at Belton Park has started and Colin is really looking forward to meeting and playing with as many Belton Park members and visitors as he can. Colin has chosen the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance as his charity for the year, commenting “it is a really worthwhile cause as the air ambulance provides essential emergency medical cover and is constantly on standby, averaging 3 missions a day and the bright yellow helicopter can often be seen over Grantham”. As the service is totally funded by donations Colin is proud to support the Charity during his year as Club Captain.
