There were 30 teams competing for the Aveling Barford Hospital Cup, an 18 hole Open Am Am.
Conditions were near perfect for golf – a gentle breeze and lots of sunshine. The course was in great condition, a fact that a number of competitors mentioned after their round.
Following play, everyone enjoyed a two course carvery in the dining room.
With the excellent conditions, it was understandable that scoring was of a good standard with nearly half the field scoring 80+ points in the two from four Am Am format.
The winners, with a healthy score of 87 points, were John Sharman, Michael Holmes, Jason Lander & Kevin Butler from Mickleover Golf Club.
In second place, also on 87 points (ocb) were Chris Budd, Duncan Spalding (Edwalton Golf Club), Andrew Vernon (Willesley Park Golf Club) & Paul Roome (Oakmere Park Golf Club).
Third place, on 86 points were the Belton Park triumvirate of Chris Mousley, Nigel Evans, Kenneth Kane with James Salvage of Betchworth Park Golf Club. In fourth place, also on 86 points (ocb) were the Burghley Park triumvirate of Simon Chester, Gary Shelton and Darron Evans with Alex Carter of Greetham Valley Golf Club. Fifth place went to the home team of Vincent Hamer, Doug Tweedie, Darrell Froggatt & Terry Quinn with 86 points and Sixth place were Paul Screen, David Harris, Peter Thacker & James Fulton, all of Belton Park, on 82 points.
