A competitive field enjoyed the annual hosting of the Battle of Britain Open on Sunday 11th September.
The course was in great condition after the downpour on the previous day and many remarked that the greens were fast yet receptive and a pleasure to play on. Scoring was very close with three pairings returning scores of 44 points but it was the home pairing of Nigel Gibson Snr and Nigel Gibson Jnr who took the trophy on countback.
After play, the competitors enjoyed a delicious carvery before the presentation. This was conducted by the Club Captain, Paul Screen, with Don Hiller, Harry King and Norah English from the Royal Air Force Association. Norah had served at RAF Spitalgate during the war and it was fitting that she received a cheque from the club in support of the excellent work undertaken by the association.
